Your Guide to the Ghoulish

West Yorkshire Storyteller, Adam Sargant

Your host has been a storyteller for more decades than he cares to remember. His fascination with ghosts and folklore goes back to his childhood in the 1960s and 70s, when he could be found at night under the covers with a torch reading Folklore, Myths and Legends of Britain. A resident of Haworth, West Yorkshire for 2 decades, he has been researching the relationship between Haworth, its own folklore and legends, its ghosts and the Brontës for much of that time.

His first public storytelling gig was some 30 years ago, for a group of girl guides, at which he played didgeridoo and told some tales that he had learned from Francis Firebrace, an Aboriginal Australian elder who has given him permission to tell these tales. Following this, he was honoured to be granted the status of honourary Girl Guide!

Since then he has appeard at various local festivals, has collaborated with a number of storytelling projects, co-developed a mental health programme that utilises traditional folktales and mindfulness and worked as a therapeutic storyteller at his local hospice. He has hosted the Haworth Open Storytelling Circle since 2012.
